Devonport Still Two Up

KEEN LEAGUE COMPETITION

Record Crowd Sees Big Games

THE 10,000 mark was comfortably passed at Carlaw Park on Saturday, when the biggest club attendance of the season was recorded. Xewton’s defeat bf City was the only real surprise in a full list of senior matches. Devonport preserved its unbeaten record, Richmond going down after a grim struggle in which a couple of bouts of fisticuffs served to enliven the proceedings.

Devonport was too strong back and forward for Richmond, and especially in the inside backs. A feature of the game was the display given by the three colts, Reynolds. Simons and T. O’Leary, who were outstanding in the Shore backs.

Newton’s defeat of City was due to Newton making better use of its opportunities. City did not have the best of the luck, and threw away several good chances during the game. Ponsonby piled up a cricket score against Kingsland, but Ellerglie staged a great second spell recovery, and it was only Marist’s better all-round play which saved the Tykes from defeat. Brady distinguished himself by scoring four tries for Marist.
