Civic Reception To Emden's Crew
WELLINGTON’S WELCOME BALL ALSO ARRANGED Special to THE SL \J WELLINGTON, Today. There will be no lack of warmth about Wellington's hospitality to the officers and crew of the German cruiser Emden, when she arrives here on July 6. The Mayor, Mr. G. A. Troup, does not intend to ask the City Council’s permission to extend a civic reception to the visitors, but has already announced his intention to do so. He states that he will extend the same courtesies to ttae commander, officers and men of the Emden as he would do to the representatives of any other foreign Power. Functions in Wellington will probably include a ball in the Town Hall, at which the host will be the German Consul. The men of the Emden will have free use of the Corporation Tramways during the vessel's stay in Wellington.
