DUSOLINA GIANNINI
OPERA AND CONCERT STAR Signorina Dusolina Giannini, the distinguished opera and concert star who is to tour Australia and New Zealand this year under the direction of E. J. Gravestock, Ltd., is probably the most outstanding of all the visiting concert artists of the year. Born in America of Italian parents, she jumped into fame overnight in New York when she appeared as substitute at* the Carnegie Hall for another singer. Sne was hailel as the find of recent years, and immediately her successes began. Following on her American triumphs, the late Daniel Mayer, who had taken charge of her career from the outset, arranged for Giannini to sing in Germany. Her success there was a revelation, and it is the opinion of Miss Erica Moripi and Mr. Efrem Kurtz, who were in Germany at the time, that Giannini made the greatest and biggest success any artist has ever made in that country. Giannini has made several visits to Germany since, and her tour last year was a series of full houses wherever she appeared, whether in opera or concert. Her success at Covent Garden Opera House, London, last season was cne of the outstanding features. Supporting Giannini will be Sol Deutsch, a young American violinist who is also an excellent viola player, and Miss Molly Bernstein, pianistaccompanist. Miss Bernstein has been Giannini’s accompanist for the past five seasons in America, and plays nearly all Giannini’s repertoire by memory. The tour will commence in Sydney on June 29. “Four Devils,” a stirring drama with a circus background, will be one of the next Fox Movietone programmes to be shown.
