EX-MAYOR HONOURED
TE AWAIvIUTU PRESENTATION Mr. L. G.. Armstrong, who for the past 10 years has been Mayor of Te Awamutu, was. together with Mrs. Armstrong, tendered a complimentary social at Te Awamutu on Wednesday evening. The recently-elected Mayor, M.r. C. G. Downes, presided, and welcomed Mr. W. 'J Broadfoot. M.P. for Waitomo and Mayor of Te, Kuiti, Mrs. Broadfoot. Mr. A. S. Wallace, first Mayor of Te Awamutu, and Mr. J. T. Johnson, chairman of the Te Awamutu Power Board. Eulogistic references were made to the manner in which both Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong had endeared themselves to the people of Te Awamutu. Mr. Armstrong’s long life had, no doubt, occasioned him many worries. stated Mr. Downes, but he liad invariably presented a cheerful countenance. Mr. Downes also paid a tribute to Mrs. Armstrong. He asked Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong to accept a beautiful and substantial oak canteen of stainless cutlery (with an engraved plate) with the burgesses’ best wishes and gratitude for long and valuable services during the past 10 years. In acknowledging the gift Air. Armstrong said that in his 10 years of office he had been very ably and loyally supported by borough councillors. and thus any credit accorded him for the progress of the borough should 1 rightly be shared by them.
