DRUNKEN REVELS

RIOTOUS CONDUCT AT ONEHUNGA ORDER AGAINST WOMAN “As soon as I came home, they filled me with booze,” said Mrs. Minnie Jepson, a half-caste Maori, at the Onchunga Police Court this morning. CHE pleaded not guilty to a charge of drunkenness. The police made application for the issue of a prohibition order against her. Constable Wilks told the court that he had received a complaint that a disturbance was going on in accused’s house, and on his arrival there she became abusive, and followed him out on to the street. The house was full of Maoris and Europeans, ail more or less drunk, and drinking had been going on for some time past. The accused and her friends had come from Freeman’s Bay, from where they had been moved on by the police. Another constable said that complaints had been made about the riotous conduct of accused. On one occasion he found all the beds smashed, and people lying drunk on the floor. At another time he found accused on the floor drunk, with a baby in her arms. Sergeant Cruickshank said that the people had been warned previously. Although accused had not been convicted before, her house was the scene of constant rioting, and she was in liquor half her time. Accused was convicted and discharged by Messrs. J. E. Cowell and J. E. Green, J.P.’s, -who were on the bench, and a prohibition order for 12 months was issued against her.
