Defiant Strikers

EXTENSION OF DISPUTE FORECAST WORKERS’ HOUSES STONED (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. 9.25 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. Defiant speeches by the leaders was the principal feature at a secret meeting of timber workers held in the basement of the Town Hall last night. Extension of the dispute was forecast. It was announced that the engineers at the yards which had been declared “black” would be withdrawn today, with the object of bringing the operations at the yards to a standstill. Mr. Kavanagh, a well known Communist, presided, and the speakers included Mr. Denford, whose name was mentioned in the Arcos raid. The timber strikers stoned three houses of loyalists in the western suburbs early in the morning, breaking the windows. One man was injured.
