KEEN HOCKEY

THREE SENIOR MATCHES ST. LUKE’S V. VARSITY Of the three senior grade hockey j matches set down for decision at Remuera tomorrow chief interest is promised in the meeting of St. Luke's and Varsity. The teams will cross sticks on No. 2 ground at 3.5 and a lively contest is assured. Both sides scored a win last Saturday and St. Luke’s created a surprise by*a notable victory over Somerville, last season’s champions. The students will have to fight all they know to keep their colours aloft in view of the fact that the team is still in a state of flux. On No. 2 at 1.50 Somerville will wield sticks against Epiphany. The match will be fast and open and although the Black and Yellows are capable of surprises now and then the final score should be in favour of Somerville. The third match, that between Mount Eden and North Shore, should produce a willing and sporting battle. Both teams own a dashing forward line, and the game will probably be determined mainly’ through the strength or weakness of these departments. The men’s King’s Birthday seven-a-side tournament will not be held on June 3 this year, but will be played off on the afternoon of Saturday’, June 1. The change has been found imperative on account of certain difficulties concerning financial arrangements with other authorities. Senior Grade Somerville.—N. Chiplin, C. Smith, R. Munro, W. Heard. G.
