Waitemata Bridge To be Considered
MINISTER’S REPLY DEPUTATION STATES NEEDS Press Association WELLINGTON, Toda^. A deputation representing all the local bodies on the northern side of the Waitemata Harbour, and several on the city side, together with various officials of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Association, waited upon the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, today. The need was emphasised of immediate action in setting up a departmental committee to determine the site of the proposed structure, and to investigate the nature of the bed of the harbour by boring along the selected route. When this information was obtained it was pointed out that a reliable cost of the proposed bridge could be furnished by an engineer. Alternative suggestions for financing the work were also discussed. The Minister gave the deputation a sympathetic hearing, going into the matter at some length, and finally undertook to place the representations before the Prime Minister for ultimate consideration and decision of Cabinet.
