COALMINING DEADLOCK
MAYOR OF NEWCASTLE APPEALS EFFORT FOR SETTLEMENT SYDNEY, Monday. The Mayor of Newcastle has communicated with the Prime Minister, Mr. Bruce, and the acting-Premier of New South Wales, Mr. E. A. Buttenshaw, asking that another effort shall be made to settle the coalmining dispute before the Royal Commission commences its long and tedious investigation. The Mayor says he believes the miners’ representatives are in the mood to co.me to terms which would enable the mines to be reopened almost immediately.
