ITALIAN ART DISPLAY
GREAT EXHIBITION TO BE HELD IN BRITAIN KEENEST CO-OPERATION British Official Wireless Reed. 11a.m. RUGBY, Monday. A meeting will be held in London on Thursday to discuss details of a great exhibition of Italian art, to be held at Burlington House. Lady Chamberlain, wife of the Foreign Secretary, who is at the head of the committee in charge of the arrangements, has already made several journeys abroad in connection with the organisation of the exhibition.
The liveliest interest has been shown by Italian art authorities. The Pope and Signor Mussoftni have expressed their willingness to assist, and all the great Italian galleries, including the National Museum of Naples, the I’fizzi and the Pitti, have declared their readiness to contribute representative works.
“We may take it,” said a spokesman, “that Australia is speaking the mind of all the Dominions, showing that the Empire would never accept such reductions.” The Dominions and colonies would not be asked to suffer any reductions, because they are not represented at the conference. Any reduction would only apply to those having delegates present.” It is believed that if any scheme emerges from the present deliberations, the Dominions and colonies will either not be asked to forego any reparation receipts, or be invited to have full representation at the conference.
