In the Market Place

POOR QUALITY APPLES MUSHROOMS SELL FREELY All varieties of field and garden produce meet .with a steady demand in the City Marts. Fruit is selling at practically unchanged prices. The quality of the apples coming forward leaves much to be desired. Inferior grades predominate, and the demand, as a result, is only fair. The demand for pears shows a slight improvement and the market is firmer. Fairly heavy supplies of Hutt tomatoes continue to come forward, but the quality, generally, is very poor. Extra choice locals sell freely. Lemons are dull of sale. Passions meet a slightly firmer market. Good quality mushrooms sell at comparatively high prices. A fresh consignment of Rarotongan bananas and oranges, via Wellington, came on the market this morning. The market for eggs and butter shows no change from last week’s rates.
