JUMPED BADLY

rpHE fine, clean jumping we have been used to expect from Star of the East was entirely missing in the Marton Steeplechase, for which the Aucklander was a short-priced favourite. He was never at home, and at practically every fence he got in too close. The hencoop was taken an extreme dislike to, and the post-and - rails he also did not fancy, having a life at this fence the second time.

For all this, Star of the East finished third, so it looked a* if with a little improvement in his fencing he would have scored. The chestnut cannot be ruled out of his future engagements by his Marton showing.
