IMPROVING HOTELS

ACTIVITY IN AUSTRALIA MR. H. C. McCOY’S VIEWS As a result of the security of tenure secured in the recent elections a number of new hotels are being erected in Australia and many others are being altered and modernised, said Mr. H. C. McCoy, who returned to Auckland by the Aorangi to-day. During his tour Mr. McCoy visited New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia and made a special trip to Geelong to visit the new distillery which has been erected there. He states that it is a thoroughly modern place but It will be some time before the new product is marketed as the spirit will have to be matured first. Great progress has been made at Canberra, the capital city. It is a most interesting place, says Mr. McCoy. The lay-out of the city, the wonderful buildings, the delightful surroundings and the bracing atmosphere leave a lasting impression. “What impressed me most was the clear cloudless days experienced everywhere,” continued Mr. McCoy. “The Australian sunshine has great charm.” He contends that the lack of New Zealand news in Australia ia a great drawback to visitors from the Dominion.
