BODY RECOVERED
LAKE PUPUKE DROWNING FATALITY FOUND THIS MORNING This morning the body of Geoffrey Shaw, aged 13, was recovered from Lake Pupiike, Takapima. The discovery was made by Mr. H. P. Collins, inspector for the Takapima Borough Council, at 11 o’clock this morning. He found the body on the foreshore of the lake at the foot of Selwyn Avenue. Geoffrey Shaw was drowned in the lake on Wednesday afternoon when he and another lad, Percy White, had tried to cross in a canvas canoe. A strong wind was blowing at the time, and when about 100yds from Goldie’s Point the canoe swamped and overturned. White had tried to pursuade Shaw not to attempt to cross the lake, but as his entreaties were not listened to he decided to accompany the younger boy. When the canoe swamped White made valiant efforts to save companion, but was unable to do so. An inquest concerning the boy’s death will be held. Geoffrey Shaw was a son of Mr. H. 11. Shaw, of Kowhai Street, Takapuna.
