CLOSES SEASON’S PLAY WITH SUCCESSFUL DANCE The Bayfield Old Scholars’ Lawn Tennis Club closed its summer season with a very successful dance held in the Point Erin Kiosk on Saturday evening. The club colours were represented by gracefully arranged festoons of blue ancl gold streamers, while glowing clusters of variegated balloons and a central tier of hoops with pendant streamers added a final touch to a gay scheme of decorations. SCHOOL TENNIS FUNDS TO BENEFIT CONSIDERABLY BRIGHT DANCE HELD BY TAMAKI EAST PUPILS A very enjoyable social evening arranged by the committee of the East Tamaki Public School was held in the East Tamaki Hall on Saturday evening. The proceeds are to be donated to the funds of the school tennis courts. The early part of the evening was devoted to a very enjoyable programme of musical items interspersed with which were a number of dances for the tiny folk. At the conclusion of the programme the adults took the floor, and dancing was indulged in till a late hour. Music was provided by Mrs. Ganiev und Miss Blake. ORANGE BLOSSOMS YOUNG—GOLDSWORTHY A wedding at Devonport on Saturday held interest for residents of both Xorthern Wairoa and the Lower Waikato districts. Miss G. I. Goldsworthy, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. j. Goldsworthy, who formerly resided at Patumahoe. but now make their home at Devonport, was married to Mr. ,T. Young:. now of Puni. but whose parents, the late Mr. J. Young and Mrs. Young, were old residents of Arapohue. The ceremony was celebrated by the Rev. F. J. Martin, at the Devonport Methodist Church. The bride was given away by her father and wore an exquisite frock of ivory beaute satin with a silver lace skirt caught with a side bow. A veil of brussels lace was matched with a coronet of silver lace. The bridal boquet was of ivory white chrysanthemums. The bride was attended by Miss Eileen Hole, whose frock was of dainty peach pink georgette with a scalloped edge and self-ruched, ornamented with flowers showing a silver centre. The conventional bridesmaid’s hat was discarded for chic headwear of russian tulle. Her bouquet was of soft pink dahlias and white chrysanthemums. Lois Bridson was a flower girl in ceil blue georgette with lace-edgcd frills and a posy on the shoulder. The frock had a band of blue flowers and silver leaves, and she carried a basket of lemon and pink gladiolus and daisies. The best man was Mr. A. Webb, of Dargaville, cousin of the groom. HOLLOWAY—MENZIES The marriage took place at St. Sepulchre’s Church, Khyber Pass, on Saturday, of Doris, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Menzies, of Mount Eden, to Ronald Ernest, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. PI. Holloway, of Bayswater. The Rev. Gordon Bell officiated. The bride, who entered the church on her father's arm, wore a picture frock o£ ivory taffeta, the slender bodice of which was attached to a bouffant skirt, scalloped round the hem, and appliqued with large silver lame and satin flowers. The sleeves were long and tight fitting round the wrists, and a chic finish was given by a taffeta bow at the waistline. A scalloped oval veil was caught to the head with a coronet of orange blossom, and a dainty toilette was completed by a shower bouquet of choice flowers and maidenhair fern. She was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Stella Menzies, sister of the bride, and Miss Edna Ash win. Both wore frocks of similar design, expressed in coral silk net over underslips of silk, and both wore tulle and silver head-dresses. The frocks were made with semi-fitting bodices, and the skirts had handkerchief pointed draperies, the waists being defined by a tulle and silver bow, and a cluster of blue forget-me-knots. G. McGregor, prior to her departure for Auckland. Mrs. McGregor, during her residence in Ohakune, has taken a keen interest in all public movements, but especially the work of their societies. Mesdames Wood and Seth-Smith voiced the feelings of those present. They were all very sorry that Mrs. M.cGregcr was leaving Ohakune, but they were sure that what was their loss would be Avondale’s gain. A pretty bronze mounted fruit-dish was handed to Mrs. McGregor. Miss Sayisson also presented Mrs. McGregor with a beautiful bouquet of dahlias, grown by Mrs. Fetzer. BRIGHT PARTY Mrs. Radford was hostess to a partv given at her home, Green Lane, on Saturday evening for Mrs. S. Cole and Miss Mavis Jack. The reception and drawing-rooms were beautifully decorated with pink and lemon chrysanthemums. Music, cards and competitions passed a very happy time. Mrs. Radford received her guests wearing a smart frock of grey crepe de chine with vieux rbse trimming, and was assisted by her daughter’Mrs. Bruce Morrison, who wore a cyclamen crepe de chine and cream lace frock. FOOTBALL DANCE CAPS AND TROPHIES PRESENTED AT DEVONPORT The Devonport United Football Club celebrated the “kick-off” of the 19211 season with a smart social and "cni>giving” in the Foresters’ Hall, Devonport, on Saturday evening. The Shore Club had last season annexed the senior championship after 14 years’ steady trying, while their understudies in the first juniors brought home the cup for the third time in succession. On Saturday the players were given their caps as mementoes of a happy if strenuous season, and there was a splendid attendance of supporters. The liall was cheerfully decorated in warmly coloured festoons and bunting. Chairman Swinnerton introduced the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. E. Aldridge, of Devonport, who distributed the prizes.
