FIRE BRIGADE’S SUCCESS

From Saturday's T-ate Krtition.

FIRST YEAR’S WORK IN PAPATOETOE A full attendance of members of the Papatoetoo Fire Brigade, presided over by Superintendent Bradley, was present atthe first annual meeting, held in the brigade room last week. The superintendent’s report dealt very comprehensively with the first year’s work of the brigade, stating that 20 calls had been answered to property fires, the total value of the buildings involved being approximately £21,450 and bearing insurances of £11,245. The actual saves made by the brigade totalled £0.429 in value, which was a very creditable perfoi'mance, considering that the brigade was equipped with only a first-aid firefighting plant. The sum of £66 11s lid had been spent during the year for the purchase of uniforms and helmets, and £34 was expended on the expenses incurred in sending a team to the Hokitika demonstrations. The thanks of the brigade were extended to the Otahuhu and Onehunga Fire Brigades for allowing the use of their practising facilities, and also to the residents of the district for the very loyal way in which they had supported the brigade’s efforts. The balance sheet showed the finances of the brigade to be in a very healthy condition. Revenue for the year totalled £159 3s Bd, and expenditure £136 14s lid, leaving a credit balance of £22 8s 9d to be carried forward to next year. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Superintendent, M. (1. J. Bradley; deputy-superintendent, Mr. P. Pennell; foreman, Mr. G. Shortt; deputy-foreman, Mr. W. Baker; secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. J. Bradley; executive committee, Messrs. S. Brooke, A. Macßeth and M. Thomson, together with the above officers. A unanimous vote of thanks was accorded to Fireman S. Brooke, for his cervices as secretary and treasurer to the brigade during its initial stages.
