HORTICULTURAL SHOW
NEW LYNN SOCIETY The New Lynn and District Horticultural Society held its first autumn show in, St. Thomas’s Hall on Saturday. Dahlias and chrysanthemums comprised the main part of the exhibits, and considering the unfavourable season for these flowers the show was a very fine one. Mr. C. F. Gardner declared the show open, congratulating the society on staging such a magnicent blooms, which was an effective answer to the oft-heard remark that New Lynn soil was very poor. Following are the awards: FLOWERS Twelve Japanese Chrysanthemums, at least six varieties (winner to hold cup presented by Mr. Naylor): Mr. G. K. Gilliam. Three chrysanthemums, yellow; G. K. Gilliam, 1. Specimens of chrysanthemums, in various colours (five classes): Airs. C. Empen, Ist in each case. Bowl or vase of chrysanthemums, arranged for effect; Airs. Empen, 1. Chrysanthemums, novice classes—Japanese distinct variety (two classes): J. Empen, Ist in each case. Specimen blooms (four classes): J. Empen, Ist in each case. Six cactus dahlias: Airs. C. Empen, 1. Six paeony dahlias: Air. It. Wright, 1. Twelve decorative dahlias (two classes): Air. R. Wright, Ist in each case. Six cactus dahlias: G. Sadgrove, 1. Three cactus dahlias: Airs. F. Brooke Taylor, 1. Six paeony dahlias: Airs. F. Brooke Taylor, 1. Three paeony dahlias: R. Crum, 1. Six decorative dahlias (two classes): B. S. Andrews, Ist in each case. Six collarette dahlias: G. Sadgrove, 1.
