DE RIVERA’S BOMBSHELL
ANOTHER UNIVERSITY SUPPRESSED “CENTRE OF REBELLION" Times Cable Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. The Madrid correspondent o£ “The Times” says that, just when the public was supposing that the Government trouble with the students liad blown over, the Dictator, General Primo de Rivera, exploded a bombshell by announcing that the University of Oviedo had been suppressed until October, 1930; also that unless the University of Barcelona amends its ways it will likewise be shut. A communique accompanying the Royal decree says the weakness is due to the connivance of professors and students, who made Oviedo an intolerable centre of rebellion. The Government will not hesitate to suspend every university unless they cease revolutionary activities. No harm will be occasioned, as Spain already has too many . lawyers and doctors.
