Pon, principal of Orakei Kindergarten, gave an interesting address on the training of kindergarten children at the monthly meeting of the Mount Albert branch of the League of Mothers yesterday afternoon. Obedience, she said, was instinctive in a child, but sometimes the instinct of self-assertion and the desire for knowledge warred with the former instinct. When this happened a careful study of the child was necessary, and care and tact rather than sternness should be used by the parent to- , ward it. Obedience caused by fear was bad for the child and was not a method ! used in kindergartens. At the conclu- \ sion of Aliss Pound’s address, to which i the members and mothers listened with close attention, a delightful afternoon tea was served.
