BIGAMOUS HUSBAND IN GAOL PETITION FOR DIVORCE When Mabel Victoria Cameron mar- j ried lan Cameron she thought his 1 name was John Brown and that she ! would be Mrs. Brown. But she was not. She petitioned for a divorce from i her husband on the grounds of deser- j tion at the Supreme Court yesterday j before Mr. Justice Kennedy. Mr. Hall Skelton, who appeared for i petitioner, said a peculiar position had ariseu since proceedings were started. “The husband has since been charged with bigamy and it has been shown that his name was not John Brown, as it appeared in the marriage certificate, but lan Cameron. Mr. Justice Kennedy granted leave to have the petition amended accordingly. Petitioner was married in Auckland ' in July, 1925, and there was one child of the marriage. Her husband had i deserted her in January, 1924, and had I not returned to her since. Later, he had been convicted of bigamy and was serving a term of imprisonment for that offence. A decree nisi was granted, to be moved absolute after three months, petitioner to have interim custody of the child.
