WHISKY STOLEN
WATERSIDER FINED NOT SERIOUS CASE Theft of whisky from the Union Steam Ship Company was proved against John James Banbury, a water - sider, in the' Police Court yesterday afternoon. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., took into consideration Banbury’s good behvaiour, and inflicted a fine of £5. Banbury was charged w’ith stealing three bottles of whisky valued at 15s. J. W. Gabrielson, a seaman of the Waimea, said he saw Banbury interfering with a case. When he left the ship he had a whisky bottle in one hand and another in his shirt. A. J. Henry, chief officer of the Waimea, told how the accused had been apprehended. Witness mentioned that on the same day 18 bottles of beer had been broached from a cargo on the steamer. For the accused Mr. J. J. Sinclair said the man was a hard worker, was married, and had two young children.
