ATHENIAN CLUB The annual meeting of the Auckland Athenian Club was held at the Operatic Society’s Hall. Grafton Road, on • Monday. The attendance of members was excellent and augured well for a most successful season. The balance-sheet showed the finances to be in a very satisfactory condition. An election *of officers for the 1929 season resulted as follows: —President, Mr. W. Wright; vice-president, Mr. C. Munroe Emanuel; hon. treasurer, Mr. V. Trask; hon. secretary, Mr. O. M. Ri9hardson; committee, Misses Rainey, Kirkby and L. Walker, Mesdames Cornish and Tysoe, sen., Messrs. King, Regan, Wyatt and Middleton. Tho services of the retiring president, Mr. P. Free, were eulogised and lie was made a life member. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring secretary. Mr. E. H. Perkins. It was decided to hold the first regular meeting on Saturday, April 27. i After the general business was- disI posed of, supper was served and the remainder of the evening spent in dancing. ! Yesterday afternoon the Mothers’ I Thought Guild held a small, but in- | teresting, meeting at the home of the j president, Mrs. Hemus, Belvedere, Epsom. Mrs. Bampton. a member of ! the committee, read the report, after ' which Mrs. Hemus gave a short talk i on the aims and ideals of the guild. I There were now 98 members in New i Zealand, representatives residing in ' most of the big towns. A letter was , read from a lady in Western Australia, who offered to work there for the guild and be Its representative there. Such an offer, Mrs. Hemus said, was most encouraging to the members and would be gratefully accepted. A delightful after-noon tea was served.
