PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD
The engineer of the Papatoetoe Town Board reported at last evening’s meeting that the estimated cost of preparing levels of the 15 miles of roadway in the board’s area was £5lO. The question was referred to the Works Committee, to report to the next meetThe engineer reported having taken the permanent levels at the junctions of Portage Road-Gray Avenue, Wyllie Road-Kenderdine Road, and for the full length of Carruth, Wintere and Iluia Roads.
The combined subdivisional plan of Messrs. Bryant, McCullough and Wallace was approved, on the recommendation of the town planner. The action of the Works Committee in accepting the tender of T. B. Murie for the erection of the pump house and the lining of the well, at a cost of £470, was confirmed.
When a letter was read from the secretary of the Papatoetoe Welfare League, stating that the clause dealing with the employment of local labour on the water-supply scheme, was not being adhered to by the contractor, the chairman reported having made inquiries, and having found that the contractor was fulfilling the requirements to the letter. The clerk was authorised to request the league to submit any complaints to a sub-com-mittee for verification before forwarding them on to the board.
The clerk reported that the total income for last year amounted to £ 8,434 13s Id, and expenditure £9,225 6s 9d, showing a debit balance on the year’s working of £790 13s Bd. Outstanding rates amounted to £930. Assets were set down at £13,868 Is 6d and liabilities £1,975 7s 9d.
