MAJESTIC

; “CAPTAIN LASH” ON FRIDAY “The Further Adventures of the Flag Lieutenant,” a stirring drama of intrigue and love, is the current attraction at the Majestic Theatre. There is civil war in China, conspiracy, insurrection, and —Dicky Luscelles, the flag lieutenant. Admiral ►Sir Berkeley Wynne’s flagship is lying with a cruiser squadron in tne Y'ungtse, and our hero, searching ashore lor an outlet for his boisterous spirits, is nosing into the atfairs of a party of international conspirators at the missionary settlement of Wu Ping, near Shanghai. Here he observes indications of a plot in which, it appears, a prominent part is to be played by a clever adventuress whom Dicky later has reason to believe is a fascinati ig Shanghai resident known as Pauline Sports are held on the flagship, and Colonel Thesiger. of the Royal Marines, unaware of Dicky’s suspicions, invites Pauline aboard as a spectator. That , is the beginning of the lurnv. il, which does not cease until thlast scene, an.l Dicky is married to the admiral' i daughter. The supporting' programme this o\ ening includes the melody song film, “Songs of Scotland.” with special orchestral accompaniment by Mr. Whiteford Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra. A tale of the sea. of seamen, and of a. siren is unfolded in “Captain Lash,” a Fox film starring Victor McLaglen. which opens at the Majestic Theatre on Friday. McLaglen, from his palmy days of “What Price Glory?” aid “Loves of Carmen,” is an especial favourite locally. Fox has provided him with an ideal vehicle in “Captain Lash,” and a director, John G. Blystone. “Captain Lasli” teems with exciting situations, and with moments of comedy provided by McLaglen and his pal, Cocky, played by Clyde Cook. Most of the scenes take place aboard an ocean liner plying between Sydney and Singapore, with McLaglen one minute driving his stokers at a furious pace, and the next making love to Claire Windsor, an adventuress. There is an unusual twist at the finish.
