Sudden development* in the timber strike at Sydney and Melbourne have precipitated a new crisis in tha dispute. The timber merchants and master builders flooded buildings under construction with “black” timber. I’he unions thereupon called out the carpenters and other building-trade employees. Volunteer workers yesterday attempted to drive loaded timber vehicles out of Moore’s timber yard at South Melbourne. Mounted police preceded them. Mobs of strikers closed round the vehicles and threw stones and jeered at the police, who charged with their batons. The strikers ran in all directions.
