HOSPITAL LEVY SYSTEM

PROTEST FROM WHANGAREI (Special to THE SUN) WHANGAREI, To-day. A protest against the levy made by the Whangarei Hospital Board was expressed at the Whangarei County Council yesterday. This year the levy is £5,866, compared with £4,456 last year. The council decided to draw the attention of the counties’ Association to the bad system at present in operation, in order to have the question brought before the Minister of Health. Council members thought that the levy should be based half on population and half on capital values, and one member thought that all hospital expenses should be met out of the Consolidated Fund.
