MORRINSVILLE MAYOR
mr. w. McPherson accepts NOMINATION MR. G. HOWIE TO RETIRE (From Our Own Correspondent) MORRINSVILLE, To-day. It is stated that Mr. G. Howie, who has represented Morrinsville on th*> Thames Valley Electric-Power Board since the latter’s- inception, will not seek re-election next month. The official opening of the Coghill gates will be held on April 27. At Thursday evening’s meeting of the Borough Council the engineer, Mr. R. Branch was congratulated on the good job he had made. A large deputation waited upon the Mayor, Mr. W. McPherson, requesting him to accept once more nomination to the position. Mr. McPherson had previously stated that he would not seek re-election but he yielded to the pressure brought to bear. The Mayor has done good service during his term and Morrinsville is fortunate in again having the opportunity to secure his services. At a recent meeting of the Morrinsville Borough Council application for revaluations of their properties, on the grounds that they were unfit for subdivision, was made by Messrs. G. Howie, J. R. Simpson and Hr. Craig. At Thursday’s meeting of the council the applications were refused. The Mayor said the applicants were at liberty to apply under the Valuation of Land Act to have the valuations of their properties reduced.
