CHRYSANTHEMUM DISPLAY AT NEWMARKET OPENS ON APRIL 18 The Municipal Hall, Broadway, Newmarket, will be a blaze of colour on Thursday and Friday, April 18 and 19. On those dates the Auckland Horticultural Society's chrysanthemum show will be held. The official opening will be performed by his Excellency, Sir Charles Fergusson, Governor-General, at 2.30 o’clock on Thursday, afternoon. A wonderful display of hundreds of immense Japanese, decorative, Chinese, and flowered chrysanthemums, together with all recent varieties of dahlias, will be shown. A judging competition will be open to the public, and the person placing the chrysanthemums nearest to the order of voting will receive 24 plants, including the 12 winning varieties. The second will receive 16 plants, and the third eight plants. A musical programme on tUe new electric Kolster gramophone will also be given.
