REPORT OF CONFERENCE FREIGHTS AND TAXES ( Axistralian and 2v,Z. Press Association) SYDNEY, Friday. The main recommendations in the report of the Overseas Shipping Conference are: That the cost of transport should no longer be increased by special taxes. That when shipping profits are made they should be taxed once and once only, namely in the country of residence of the shipping company. That there should be no legislative bar to making agreements for the carriage of produce and. Rates of freights should be determined in the country of origin of the cargoes. The report suggests, as a means of meeting shipowners’ losses, that there should be a 7 per cent, increase of freights to Australia, yielding . £300,000.
