GERMAN COALITION. —The German Centre Party has accepted an offer of three seats in the Coalition Cabinet.—A.P.A. NAVAL CADETS KILLED.—An explosion occurred at Tokyo on Wednesday while cadets from the Naval School were fit* torpedo practice at Tokyo Bay. Seven of the cadets were killed and 30 were injured.—A.P.A. SHOOTING THREATS. Several members of the Indian Legislative Assembly have received letters signed Dharam Raj, of the Hindustan Republican Socialist Army, threatening their lives by shooting.—United Service. LIXDRUM WELL AHEAD.—In his billiards match with McConachy at Sydney. Walter Lindrum has scored including a break of 531. McConachy (in play) has made 4,924, including a break of 319.—A.P.A. PORTABLE WIRELESS SETS.-—ln view of the increasing popularity of Portable wireless sets the PostmasterGeneral, Sir William Mitchell-Thom-*on» has decided that, in future, a tireless licence shall cover not only the us© of a wireless set at the permanent address of the licence, but also the us ® of a portable set.—British Wireless. LOW BIRTH-RATE. —Commenting n n~the continued fall in the birth-rate in Britain the Registrar-General says: Since 1923 the birth-rate has entered upon a stage which, if there is not an improvement in the future, must ultimately result in a declining population. •he returns for 1927 just published show that there were 40,391 fewer hirths in 1927 than in 1926. The rate the former year was the lowest recorded.—United Service.
