STARS OF ENGLISH LEAGUE
A GREAT exhibition of fullback play by Jim Sullivan, who captained the English Leaguers in most of their matches in New Zealand last year, was a feature of Wigan’s decisive victory over Hunslet in one of the star matches of the League season in England a few weeks ago. With an Aucklander on each wing, and another New Zealander toiling strongly in the pack, Wigan’s win was a triumph of skill over individual effort. Ben Davidson scored two out of four tries, Lou Brown one of the others, and Sullivan made up the rest in goals. Ellaby, another of last year’s tourists, who went stale in New Zealand, has been playing great football for St. Helens, this year. On the same day as the WiganHunslet game the big winger scored three tries for the second Cup tie in succession, ■ and (says the ‘‘Athletic News”) his artistry in performing the feat was a great treat to the 7,500 spectators who were present.
