PIO PlO MEETING A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE (From Our Own Correspondent) TE KUITI, Tuesday. That popular local fixture, the Pio Pio Sports and Athletic Club's annual meeting, took place at Pio Pio on Easter Monday, and as in former years there was a very large attendance from neighbouring centres. The Eltham Pipe Band, under Drum-Major J. Bell and Pipe-Major J. Crawford, provided popular music for the dancing events, and also at the dance held in the Town Hall in the evening. Several keen contests were witnessed, the big chopping event (12in. standing chop) being especially interesting. A Maori named Pu won this event In lm 4s, also winning the second I2in. chop. KAKAHI SPORTS WADE BREAKS CYCLING RECORD (From Our Own Correspondent) TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday. Winning four cycling events on end, and coming second in his fifth start, J. H. Wade crowned a meteoric run of successes at the Kakahi sports by breaking the record in the two-mile open race for the Mercer Cup, the champion’s time being 4m 455. In the track events, J.
