BOXING TOURNAMENT

UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM FOR CHRISTCHURCH Interesting boxing was seen at the third annual boxing t.—rnament of the Auckland University College held at the college last evening, when four championships were decided. Matt Hatton. Auckland professional feather-weight, gave an exhibition with F. Pearcey, Auckland amateur flyweight champion, and another exhibition bout was given by H. Johns and R. Fraei. Tho surprise of the evening was the defeat of Mayhill by Smith. Although Smith won, the rules of the interuniversity tournament prevent him from competing in the New Zealand University championships, as this is his first year at Varsity. Mr. Frank Burns was the referee. Results were: Feather-weight.—Final: G. Blomfield, 9st, beat A. P. Postlewaite, 9st. Light-weight.—Semi-final: A. Mayhill, 9st 111 b, beat H. G. Doherty, 9st 81b: M. F. Smith, 1 Ost. beat L. Glover, 9st 131 b. Final: M. F. Smith beat A. Mayhill. Welter-weight.—Final: M. C. Clarke, I.ost 81b, beat A. Mayhill, 9st 111 b, by default. Middle-weight.—Final: R. B. Moorhouse, list 41b. beat G. W. Greensmith, list, by default. VARSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS The following team has been selected to compete in the New Zealand University championships at Christchurch: Feather-weight, G. Blomfield; light, A. Mayhill; welter, A. Mayhill; middle, K. B. Moorhouse; heavy, G. Frear.
