FAITH IS SUBSTANCE

CHRISTIAN SCIENTIST CHURCH

“Substance” was the subject of the lesson-sermon in all Churches of Christian Scientists on Sunday. The golden text was from Hebrews xi., 1: “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not s-een.” Among the citations which comprised the lesson-sermon was the following from the Bible: —“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts; and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.”— Hebrews, viii.: 10. The lesson-sermon also included the following passage from the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,” by Mary Baker Eddy: “After the author’s sacred discovery, she affixed the name ‘Science’ to Christianity, the name ‘error’ to corporeal sense, and the name ‘substance’ to mind. Science has called the world to battle over this issue, and its demonstration, which heals the sick, destroys error, and reveals universal harmony.”—Page 483.
