FRENCH PUBLIC FURIOUS
SOLDIERS DIE ON RHINE NEGLECT ALLEGATIONS (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Monday. The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Express” says a political crisis is threatened, owing to the heavy death-roll among the French troops on the Rhine. This is alleged to be due to culpable neglect. In the recent Icy weather more than 200 soldiers are said to have died from exposure while on duty, or from want of adequate attention. Consequently public opinion has been whipped to fury. Members of Parliament insist that the scandal shall be thoroughly sifted. Up to the present the military authorities have asserted that the deaths were due to Influenza, but a Parliamentary mission went from Paris to investigate the matter. A strong outcry against the Government is developing.
