DIVORCEES SEPARATE SOBBING BITTERLY
Mumtaz Begum, the former dancing girl of the Indore Court, has been divorced at Karachi from Mr. Abdul Rehman, the wealthy Mohammedan whom she married in 1926. Mr. Rehman stated that the divorce was due to his father’s wishes. There was a pathetic scene in court when the couple separated, both sobbing bitterly. It is understood that Mumtaz Begum will live quietly with her mother. Once the protegee of the Court of Indore, Mumtaz Begum left that city and went to live in Bombay. In Bombay her lover, a rich merchant, was shot; and the inquiry into the affair led to the retirement of the then Maharajah of Indore in favour of his 19-year-old sou. The ex-Maharajah of Indore subsequently married Miss Miller, the American, who now bears the title of Marani Sharjnishta.—“Central News.”
