RIVOLI, HOWICK
“TEMPEST” “Tempest." John Barrymore's fine picture, which will be shown this evening at the Rivoli Theatre, Howick, is a story of contracts, depicting as it does all the luxury of Tsarist Russia and the subsequent chaos of the 1917 revolution which transformed private soldiers into generals and generals into fugitives. In the early part of the picture ‘‘Tempest" shows the pomp and gaiety of life among the ruling classes when e ntertain ments rivalling the fetes of the ancient R o m a n s were staged in the castles of the rich. With the overthrow of the empire the soldiers seize control, and it is as a young peasant officer who loves a princess that Barrymore gives a. characterisation, which is said to surpass any role of screen or stage in his career. The large supporting cast is headed by Camilla Horn, the young German actress, as the princess, and Louis i Wolheim as Barrymore’s rough but i loyal soldier friend. | An excellent supporting programme, j leaded by “The Last Waltz,” will also | be shown, and music will be played by the Rivoli Orchestra. ORGAN RECITAL The series of Sunday evening organ recitals in the Town Hall will be resumed to-morrow evening, when the city organist will play important works by Bach Lemmens and Blgar, Schumann’s “Slumber Song" and Gounod’s “Funeral March of a Marionette.” DIXIELAND CABARET The Dixieland Cabaret will be the scene of another happy dance this evening. The music will be supplied by the famous Diixeland Dance Band, and dancing will be enjoyed on the perfect lloor until a late hour.
