A STRAIGHT FIGHT
ELECTING NEW ARMY GENERAL BOOTH FAMILY’S REPRESENTATIVE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Friday. The parties to the dispute in the Salvation Army have mutually arranged that Mr. W. A. Jowitt shall present General Booth’s case to the High Council on Wednesday at a sitting in London. No further meetings will be held at Sunbury owing to the inconvenience of travelling. It is intended at present as soon as Mr. Jowitt has finished to submit the matter to adjudication by resolution. If the former majority is repeated the council will proceed to the election of a new general. It is probable that the election will be a straight fight between the Chief of Staff, Commander E. J. Higgins, and Commander Evangeline Booth. Five persons were nominated at Sunbury, but Commissioners, Hay, Lamb and Rich dropped out, after the feeling of the meeting was tested, and they are not expected to seek renomination.
