OHINEMURI NOTES At the meeting of the Ohinemuri > County Council yesterday the question • of the state of the local abattoir was i brought up. It was reported that it was unsuitable and insanitary. . Cr. Robinson said that all that was needed could be done at small cost, and suggested that the county engineer and chairman view the spot and ascertain what was required. : Cr. Johnston pointed out that the county council only retained the abattoir out of courtesy, and it could close it down in a month if it chose to do 1 so. and hand it over to the borough 1 counoil; but this would entail extra cost s in tiie killing charges. The chairman said the abattoir was of no benefit to the people of the counity, and merely provided local requirements. It was not a money-mak-ing nstitution for the county council, and it was only a matter of time when the borough council would have to maintain its own abattoir. When butchers had any complaints they should refer them directly to the council. Councillor Robinson at the Ohinemuri County meeting yesterday introduced the question of the 1-likutaia Road, t He said the road was in a very bad state, and it was essential that the whole of the road should receive immediate attention. The Hikutaia Road must receive attention, and the engineer must get a price and call for tenders, t The engineer was instructed to get a E price and invite tenders forthwith. [ Cr.
