FAST BURGLARS
QUARTER-HOUR JOB £75 HAUL AT MT. ROSKILL When Air. R. A. Dowell returned to his home in Alelrose Road, Alount Roskill, shortly before eight o’clock last evening he found both back and front doors wide open, although he had left them closed. He had been away barely a quarter of an hour to post a letter, but during that time a burglar had entered the house and taken £73 worth of jewellery and money. Mrs. Dowell and her daughter had ffone out a little earlier to pick blackberries and left a young baby asleep in one of the bedrooms. The first mkling of a burglary arose some time later when Mr. Dowell was unable to tind his watch. Mrs. Dowell then discovered that her "atch was also missing and further search revealed that two valuable •ings. a muff-cliain, a pearl necklace and £2 10s in notes were missing. The notes had been hidden in a bundle of letters, but everything in the drawer was replaced neatly, exactly as •Mrs. Dowell had left it. A sum of 16s was also taken from a Purse in another room. The neighbours report having seen two men, °ne of whom was wearing sand-shoes, lx } a motor-car near the house at the une. No sign of footprints have e ®n found round the house, which is large one standing some distance ‘jPart from any other residence in a enaely-popjiated area. The police nave the case in hand.
