DISCOVERY IN HAWTHORN HEDGE NORTH OF KAIKOURA Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. Fireblight has appeared in the Suotli Island. Mr. L. Faynter, orchard instructor made the discovery while motoring back to Christchurch from a visit to Nelson. Ho found a badly infected hawthorn hedge north of Kaikoura. He forwarded specimens to headquarters at Wellington, and late yesterday he received a telegram to say that the disease was certainly fireblight.
