HIS NEW TRAINER HAS TAKEN OVER

“MR. J. BARON” ENGAGES McGRATH Mr. “J. Baron” was not long in securing a trainer for some of his horses that failed to reach the reserve on Monday week last, as the Randwiek mentor, F. McGrath, stated that evening that he had taken delivery that afternoon of the three colts, Marco March, Main Shaft and Counter March. Mr. ••Baron” and Mr. McGrath have l ad long associations on the turf, and it was probable when McGrath trained for Mr. “Baron” about 20 years ago that the well-kjnown owner-breeder tad his most successful period, for his great colt, Pi-ince Foote, it will be remembered, won the Melbourne Cup, Victoria Derby and A.J.C. Derby in 1909, and the following year the two St. Begers. With such attractively bred two-year-olds as Marco March, Main Shaft ond Counter March, it may be said that McGrath has a great opportunity cf winning such important races again. Marco March had one start this season, ; nd that was in the A.J.C. Breeders' Plate, in which he came from a long way back to run second to Gold Tinge. The colt was eagerly sought after by several prominent members of the turf, and the last bid for him was 2,300 guineas. This was below the reserve. Marco March is by the Swynford horse imported March Along from the Sir Foote mare Baroness Foote, and is therefore bred on lines capable of winning almost any distance races. Counter March, as the name implies, s also by March Along, his dam being -he Duke Foote mare Duchess Mimi. tie has not yet raced. Main Shaft also boasts stout breeding, being by Richmond Main, who dead-heated with Artilleryman in the A.J.C. Derby, and then won the V.R.C. Derby, from Duches Simile, who was by the St. Simon horse Simile. Main Shaft has run in two races. Each of the three colts is engaged in the remaining important events for horses of that age this season in Sydney and Melbourne, and they were also nominated for the classics for three-year-olds
