BUTTER IN LONDON BUYERS HOLDING OFF Butter quotations are nominal, a cablegram from London to Dalgety and Company says, in advising the latest position in the dairy produce market. Buyers are holding off for lower prices, but sellers are not inclined to give way. Both butter and cheese are beingsold on slow markets. Last month, the total imports of butter to the United Kingdom were 441,000 cwt., compared with 445,000 in December 1927. Quotations; Butter—New Zealand finest salted, 182 s to 186 s; Danish butter, 192 s to 1965; Australian finest unsalted, 184 s to 188 s, Australian finest salted, LB2s to 185 s; Australian G.A.Q., 176 s to ISOs. Cheese—New Zealand, white, 93s to 945; New Zealand, coloured, 95s to 965; Canadian white, 108 s to 112 s; Canadian coloured, 106 s to 11.0 s; Australian white, 91s to 935; Australian coloured, 92s to 945. NORTHLAND OUTPUTS (Special to THE SUN) WHANG AREI, To-day. The butter-fat received at the Northern Wairoa Co-operative Dairy Company’s factory in December was 652,374.651 b, as against 594,722.651 b in December. 1927. The total .received in the period of December 31 was 2,245,4431 b. compared with 1,063,3991 b in the same period last season. The pay-out for December, 1928, at the rate of Is 4d a lb was £43,754, and in December, 1927, at the rate of Is 3d a lb, the pay-out was £37,345, an increase of £6,409. The pay-out for the season to December 31, 1928, was £151,210, compared with £130,069 in the same period last season.

The output of the Kaitaia dairy factory last month was 152 tons 12c wt, bringing the total for the season so fa.r to 481 tons Bcwt. The figures for the corresponding periods last season were 123 tons Bcwt and 392 tons scwt. Paying out at the rates of Is 4d a lb and Is 42d a lb, the Bay of Islands Dairy Company will distribute on Monday £10,570, as against £5,424 for December, 1927, when butter-fat was Id a lb cheaper in each grade. This will bring the total pay-out for the present season to the record of £40,239, compared with £33,921 for the same period last year.
