Obituary

MRS. F. J. RAYNER The death occurred in Canada on Sunday of Mrs. Ethel Rayner, wife of Dr. F. J. Rayner, of ‘‘Moose Lodge,” Gilgit Road, Mount Eden, according to a private cable received in Auckland yesterday. For the last 18 months Mrs. Rayner has lived in Canada, doing a good deal of travelling in the Dominion for the sake of her health. She and Dr. Rayner came originally from Toronto, and settled in Auckland some 27 years ago She was well-known in Auckland society. At present Dr. Rayner is spending a holiday in Rotorua. Mrs. Rayner leaves no children. MR. WILLIAM PARKER At the age of 90 years, Mr. William Parker, of New Lynn, died at his home yesterday. Born in England Mr. Parker came to New Zealand in 1863, in the Queen of the Mersey. He prospected for gold in the Thames district for a time, and then settled at Hokitika, later moving to Albany. In 1883 he took up land at New Lynn and has lived there ever since. Until his death he was the oldest inhabitant of the district, being, indeed, one of the first settlers, and until eight year# ago he was employed by the Wait#* mata County Council on its outsid# staff. He leaves a widow, one daughter, Mrs. IT. Southgate, of New Lynn, and one son. Mr. William Parker, of New Lynn. There are eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
