X-RAY 10 BE INSTALLED The Whangrarei Hospital Board to-day unanimuuslv decided upon the installation of an up-to-date X-ray plant. DARGAVILLE NOTES The metalling with the first course of metal having been completed, the Public Works Department is reorganising us work on the Waipoua 3? ©rest Road. This week the quarry situated on the Waipoua Stream will be closed dov n. lor the future work will proceed from the main quarry, situated in the \\ anau watershed. About 30 men and sufficient lorries have been retained to deliver lOOvds of metal a day from this quarry. About 50 men will be immediately transferred to the Public Works construction camp at Tangowahine, on the Dargaville branch railway. A road race from Dargaville to Ara--1 tapu and back, held under the auspices of the Dargaville Cycle Club, on Satur day, resulted in a win for M. Munro, off the minute mark, with H. Allen l~m), and F. Neill (2m), 3. # Local cricket competitions sumed on Saturday after the holiday period. At Pukehuia, Dargaville defeated Paradise by an innings and 47 runs. WAIT EM AT A AT VANCOUVER.— The Union Company’s trans-Paeihc steamer Waitemata arrived at "Vancouver from Suva last Saturday. She is to load at Pacific Coast ports for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. RUAPEHU TO LOAD.—The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruapehu is expected to reach Auckland from New Plymouth and Nelson next Saturday to continue loading for London. Her other loading ports are Lyttelton and Wellington. She is to be dispatched from Wellington for Southampton and London on January 31. KIA ORA WITH BASIC SLAG. —L. D. Nathan and Co., Ltd., has received advice that the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Kia Ora cleared Balboa on January 10 in continuation of her voyage from Antwerp to Auckland. The vessel has a cargo of about 6,000 tons of basic slag for Auckland, and is scheduled to arrive on February 2. CORNWALL DUE SHORTLY.—Although no radio has been received, the Federal Line steamer Cornwall is scheduled to reach Auckland ffom Liverpool on Thursday. She has general merchandise from West Coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and XeAV Plymouth. The New Zealand Shipping Company is the local agent. TREK I EVE DUE.—The A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer Trekieve has reported that she will arrive from New York at 10 o’clock to-night. The vessel has case oil and general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. Cargo for Auckland will be unloaded at Prince’s Wharf to the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE— The following vessels are expected to be within range of the undermentioned wireless stations to-night:— Auckland: Tofua, Olivebank, Trekieve, Kilcredane, H.M.S. Diomede, H.M.S. Dunedin, Aorangi, Remuera, Canadian Britisher, Benton. Chatham Islands: Rotorua. Cornwall, Port Alma, Kent, Taranaki, Pareora, Port Pirie. Wellington: Maori, Waliine, Tarnahine, Arahura, Ngaio, Niagara, Corinth ic, Tahiti, Surrey, Manuka. Canadian Transporter, Trewidden, Wairuna, Kawatiri, Te Koa, Nicoline, Maersk. Awarua: Makura, City of New York, Eleanor Boling, Maliana, C. A. Larsen, Sir J. C. Ross, N. T. Xilsen Alonso, Port Dennison.
