In the Market Place
POORER STRAWBERRIES
GOOD PEACHES PLENTIFUL Strawberries are falling off in quality. Many which arrived on the markets to-day were over-ripe. Prices remain the same for the inferior grades, but the better-qual-ity fruit is meeting with a keener inquiry than has been the case since Christmas. Good quality peaches are plentiful. Prices show a slight drop. T EMONS are still meeting with a steady demand. Tomatoes are in heavy supply, and there are ‘fair quantities of plums. Gravensteim apples have now reached the markets. They are selling well. Figs are becoming scarce. In the vegetable market there is still a glut of potatoes. Blight, due to rain during the warm weather, has impaired the quality to a great extent. An improvement in prices is expected about the end of the month. Cabbages are in over-supply. Cucumbers are also plentiful and prices are low.
