Plumber’s Jump from Blazing Factory

TRAPPED ON UPPER FLOOR IN PRECARIOUS CONDITION (From Our Own Correspondent) TE KUITI, To-day. Trapped in a blazing building at Tfi Kuiti, Amos Augustus Avery, a plumber, jumped from the second storey window of Arnold Blackman’s joinery factory after being so severely burned that his life is despaired of. The fire broke out at 10.30 this morning in the upper storey of a factory used for undertaking work. It began while men were engaged sealing a coffin, and was caused by the explosion of a blow-lamp. The fire spread and gutted the top portion of the building. The proprietor was on the premises at the time of the outbreak and secured assistance as quickly as possible. Avery was unable to get out and was badly burned all over. After medical .attention he was removed to the To Kuiti Hospital, where he lies in a precarious condition.
