WELLINGTON WOOL SALE TONE OF MARKET SOUND Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. With an aggregate catalogue of 27.000 bales, the third Wellington wool sale opened to-day. It was evident from the outset that the tone of the market was sound, super wools selling at par to slightly better than December. Medium crossbreds kept about'par, and for average there was a tendency to be slightly better than December. Inferior crossbreds sold very well indeed at a slight advance. For half-breds the demand was not so keen, and there was an easier tendency than in December by probably a halfpenny. Merinos were neglected and the market was disinclined to fall into line with growers’ valuations. Slips offering in limited quantities made good prices. For lamps' wool there was very keen competition, giving excellent returns to growers. Bellies were down, and pieces were about on a par with December. Necks were in strong demand. Bradford was again a strong feature of the sale. France competed very keenly for any wools showing quality. The United States was a good buyer of super wools, Russia was seeking fine crossbreds, and purchases at this market were relatively heavy, Germany giving excellent prices for inferior and low-grade crossbred wools.
