'WORKS ahead—slow,” which appears on several signs on j the Great South Road where the Government is carrying out road works, means more to the Raglan County Council than its author intended. At the meeting of the council to-day Mr. C. H. Furniss said the works were indeed slow, and described the works in progress through the Taupiri Gorge as scandalous and a shameful waste of public money. Other members of the council supported this view, and it was decided to bring the matter before the Main Highways Board. I
