ANTICS OF McMINN
FOUND AMONG MEDICINE BOTTLES LOOKING FOR COUGH CURE Garnet Wolsely McMinn is a man who can always be relied on to do the unexpected. He appeared at the Police Court this morning to answer a charge connected with his second extraordinary exploit within a few weeks. McMinn, a labourer, aged 46, was charged with committing mischief by wilfully damaging a pane of glass valued at £1 and belonging to Edward Cooper. He appeared to be dazed and took little interest in the proceedipgs. According to Sub-Inspector McCarthy, McMinn had been found among the bottles in a chemist’s shop on the corner of Hobson and Victoria Streets. He had gained an entry by breaking a pane of glass, but was fortunatelv found by a constable before lie had done any damage to himself bv sampling any of the stock. McMinn’s* explanation had been that he wanted something to cure a sore throat. Mr. McCarthy asked that a remand be made until to-morrow, so that a medical observation could be made. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: There is a new section in the Mental Defectives Act to deal with men like this. McMinn last attracted the attention of the police by an act of mistaken kindness last November. Early in the evening he broke into the shop of Mr. Johnnie Walked in Upper Queen Street. He took a number of puppies from cages, placing them on the footpath and providing them with a bow] °i water - He also gave water to all the fowls, and when interrupted in his . Was liberating a number of tropical birds from cages in the shop.
